It Arrived

It Arrived

Yay so my bleach manga finally arrived yesterday and man does it look awesome. So i love reading manga and comics but up until a few months ago i could not really buy much since i had a lot of debt to pay of.

So now my buying sprees have started , i purchased 21 volumes of bleach and with each volume being over 100 pages i think that this was one of the best buys ever.

Here are a few pics i snapped with my Magic (better res pics will go up as soon as i can get hold of the pictures my brother took). Click to see larger images

My First Android App .. for real

My First Android App .. for real

So it may have taken longer than expected but its finally done (version 0.1 at least).

So one of the things that i really love about android is that its a whole new development experience for me and i get to see how things are done on the other side of the fence. The sad conclusion I have come to is that I still prefer .Net and while it’s fun to develop in java it’s just not fun enough.

So here is a picture of the app.

SalaahWatch

It’s a Salaah Time Calculator which will give you the earliest possible time that you can read your Salaah.

Why this is required you may ask, because being on time is always good and because the times change from location to location. So if you are a traveler getting the correct times can be difficult at times, especially if you are new to a area.

At the moment times are only calculated for JHB, but the code is already in pace to use your built in GPS (I haven’t been able to test in the emulator) so in future it will work anywhere in the world.

The app itself is dead simple, the hardest part was converting the existing code to java and making sure that it executes correctly.

If you have any ideas / changes / Suggestions please let me know and i will gladly try and incorporate them.

Like sands through the hourglass :P

If you know where the title comes from I pity you :P , anyway back to things in general. I have been pretty busy recently as well as pretty bored and the combination of these two states produces some very weird results.

Firstly I actually took the time to upload my Salaah Time Calculation code to Google Code so if you ever feel the need to judge my code it’s available in the public domain for your scrutiny.

Secondly I finally got my HTC Magic and all I can say is wow. The phone and everything it does is pure brilliance, although that view might be slightly biased as I ‘reviewed’ it from a developer’s perspective. But in all honesty it can do everything my Omnia did, but it’s faster and lighter than the Omnia. The only 2 things that kind of annoy me at the moment is that we (in South Africa) don’t have the proper android market which means the amount of applications we have at our disposal is extremely limited .Secondly even though the phone comes with built in GPS capabilities it can’t really be used as of now because it only supports Google maps which is not supported (for turn by turn navigation) in South Africa. Other than that the phone kicks ass and I would never choose another phone. I’m not going to list all the features since there are way too many other sites that have already done that in a way better article than this.

Lastly I started work on my distributed network article a while back until I realized just how long it was .So I have re done the article in the form of a video tutorial which I will hopefully upload soon. Until then I suggest you start building up the hype for my next article so that I can finally get some hits and retire of the ad money.
